1: The top selling Abu reel this month from my records on Ebay was an Ambassadeur 5000C Deluxe. It sold for a hefty $920 and judging my the photos I have to agree with the description the seller wrote.. That being, that it was mint. Naturally it came in its teak box, together with a spare spool, unopened oil bottle and spare parts and the guarantee card which was never filled in.. The serial number was 14362
2: An Ambassadeur 5500 Gold reached $587. This reel in my opinion was in good condition. It showed signs of boat rash in the usual places, and the seller also mentioned there were light nicks, here and there. One of the chrome support bars also showed signs of brassing. Mechanically the reel was described as perfect and the Serial number / Foot number was 720200
3: Pristine Record Ambassadeur 5000. Serial# 66330. This reel sold for $570 and was in V.G++ Cond. Two minut pinhole marks could be seen. This was a smooth foot, four screw model in perfect working condition according to the seller.
4: Record Ambassadeur 6000 with leather case and spare parts sold for $415. The reel had some tiny wear on the top rims. The leather case looked to be in good tidy condition.
5: A Record Ambassadeur 6000 in beautiful condition sold on Ebay for $316. What was interesting about this sale, was that the seller was in China. Whilst I do believe there are some genuine Abu Collectors in China, I just can't see myself ever bidding on a reel from China. Without actually seeing the reel in my hand BEFORE buying it, I would worry myself to death over whether or not it was the REAL thing, or a copy ? There was no leather case or accessaries with the reel.

6: An Early Record 2100 with its box was sold for $177 on Ebay. This set would have certainly fetched a much higher price if the box had not been torn on the top. 2 screw caps on one side of the end plate were also missing. None the less, the Record 2100 is a hard find, and if you ever do find a mint set, be prepared to pay alot more!
1: Record Ambassadeur 5000 mod. SG. Mint...Sold for $3775
This is the reel I have already written about in the Top 10 list. To date in my records, it is the highest price paid for this
historic reel.
2: Record Ambassadeur 5000 4 Screw. Sold for $1119
Looked to be a Phase 2 model (model after the SG) in very nice condition, no serial number, grey spool and stardrag. Minor spots on the top side of the dark red plates. Came complete
with the leathercase (No markings) and was described as V.G / Mint Cond.
3: A Record 500 in mint condition from 1951-1952 sold for $787. This was indeed a beautiful set, which included the original case.
4: An Ambassadeur 4500C in mint cond, sold for $438 (Reel only)
5: An Abu 2100 sport in mint cond, sold for $431 (Reel only)
6: An Abu-Matic 75 in absolute mint cond, in it box (also mint) sold for $426. This was indeed a set that looked like it had just come off the factory floor. Included the casting dob and guarantee shield.

1: The top selling Abu reel this month from my records on Ebay was an Ambassadeur 5500 coloured brown. It sold for $284. Seller would not accept Paypal, so this explains the lower price for this particular reel. Very short description and not so good photos added to the low price...
Either I was half asleep during February, or as my records show, the month was fairly quite, with most of the sales going to the bread and butter Abu Reels. I recorded quite a few Morrums selling this month and the top price for a used Morrum was $228. The model was the 7700CL. An Ambassaduer 2500C, Green in colour and made for the Japanese market sold for $268 and was N.I.B (New in the box)
TRADERA
1: Record Ambassadeur 5000 mod. SG. Mint...Sold for $744
Came complete with the leather case (No markings) and was described as being in very nice cond. Pictures revealed wear on the edge
of both plates (topside)..Handle appeared to have some scratches on it. The leather case was in V.G cond and included the wrench, oil and spare parts tube.
2: Ambassadeur 5600 CDL Sold for $562
The reel was described as only been prove casted a
few times, with some small marks in the black paintwork. The wooden display box was in ex.cond and the name plate was not engraved.
3: Two Arjon Champion reels in absolutely beautiful cond fetched prices of $444 and $495. Both reels attracted much bidding and the pictures revealed that both these reels were very collectable. The higher selling reel pictured below also included the box, which was in v.good condition.
4: An Ambassadeur 30, sold for $381 (Reel only)...This reel was in VERY average used cond, with minor rash and scratching to the plates.Still a good buy as these reels are not that east to come by and whilst it would also be nice to have MINT everything in your collection, for me, just owning one is enough.
5: An Ambassadeur 6000C in mint cond, sold for $375. This set was "mint" and included all the goodies still sealed in their respective plastic. The foot number was 067200

EBAY
1: The top selling Abu reel this month from my records on Ebay was an Ambassadeur 5600 CDL. It sold for $1277. Quite a rare reel as it has a lower production level than the more common 5500 CDL. The serial number on the foot was 771100 and according to the seller, it is the first and only lot number verified for this exclusive model in Simon Shimomura's book, The Ambassadeur and I Final Chapter. The reel was described as mint, brand new, unused condition. It also came with its mint teakwood presentation box (with some beautiful dark streaking in the wood grain of the lid), its silver nameplate (never engraved), its paperwork, spare spool, bottle of oil and wrench.
2: Record Ambassadeur 5000 mod. SG. Sold for $1191(Nice set, including a spare spool, parts leather case) Above average cond, boat rash visible on the top side, with the underside being perfect. Deep Red in colour. Grey spool and stardrag, no serial number.
3: Record Ambassadeur 5000 mod. SG. Sold for $900 (Reel Only)
Lighter coloured SG than the one above, more boat rash on both the underside as well as topside.
4: Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5500 CDL Simon
Shimomura sold for $635, below is how the seller described it.
Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5500 CDL Simon Shimomura Serial Number SSCDL151 This is a Simon Shimomura 5500 CDL. Reel is only available in the Japanese market. It retails for $1100.00 U.S. dollars.
Included is the Wood Box, Box Sleeve, Grease, Wrench, Power Handle, Extra Spool, Tube of Parts and Engravable Name Plate for the Wood Box. Reel is new. A Simon Shimomura reel is the smoothest and most beautiful reel there is.
5: Ambassadeur 6500C sold
for $538
This is a BRAND NEW ABU Garcia Ambassadeur 6500C reel. This comes in the special black carrying case complete with plastic bottle of extra screws, etc, bottle of oil and 2 wrenches. All paperwork, including warranty cards is included. Platinum
finish with serial #730901 on foot. Exterior box has some wear, but everything else is sheer perfection!
6: Ambassadeur 5500 Gold sold for $455. (Reel Only)
Serial number was 770200. Described as being in ex mech order, this reel showed minor scratches
on the side plates and a moderate amount of boat rash on the tops.
7: An Ambassadeur 5000 without ABU or RECORD markings sold for $352. Serial number was 67694. I failed to note the cond of this reel :(
TRADERA
1: This item topped the month, and sold for $1025. It was not a reel, but it was Abu's Napp & Nytt from 1950. It was described as being in new cond.
2: RECORD 2000 "AMBER YELLOW"... Im still kicking myself for not winning this auction !! An extremely rare opportunity to own one of Abu's most attractive reels. Not only attractive but very rare and it will hard to find a set as good as this one ever again ! Listed on Tradera this set appeared to be 100% complete and if you have Dan Skupiens book, you can see a similar set on page 35. Add to this an original dated receipt, and you have a truly desirable collectable. Probably the nicest set I have seen in 3 years of collecting. The foot number was 962 and the reel itself was described as being in V.G Condition. The entire set sold for $1007, in my opinion a real bargin!
3: An Ambassadeur 10000 Gold, sold for $568. Was described as being in mint cond.
4: An Ambassadeur 5000 new in the box, sold for $500. Described as being a gift to the seller in 1960. Was never opened or used. The foot number was 494636. Photos confirmed it was indeed a beautiful set, including the original box it came in. True collectors piece.
5: A rare Record 1560C attracted many bids and eventually sold for $416. The seller new nothing about the reel, so the bidders were left to either bid from the pics available, or email the seller.

A Record Ambassadeur 5000 described as being in V.G +++ Cond sold for $500
Indeed
this reel was in beautiful condition, I could not see any blemishes on the reel from the pictures provided. The leather case looked soft, shiny and new and it was complimented with the oil bottle and spare parts.
A Red Abu Ambassadeur 5500 High
Speed reel in like new condition sold for $399.
Considering this was for the reel only, I think it was a great buy for the picky collector. Faultless Cond from the pictures I saw. It was described as "Super clean and very smooth. Doesn't appear
to have ever been used. Engraved Model, ie not the model with the 5500 sticker...No boat rash or dings anywhere. Chrome looks as new with no tarnish or rust. The foot # is 780400"
TRADERA
A RARE Record 300 failed to reach its starting price of $900. It also had a "Buy Now" price of $1125. The pictures were not the best, and it was hard to see any great detail. A
lesson for those wanting to sell expensive reels… Take the time to promote your reel, with good detailed photos and a well written informative description!
An Ambassadeur 5600 CDL (Gold Reel) in mint condition sold for $825.
Nothing
really much to add to this - it was indeed in mint cond. (Serial Number was 800400)
An Ambassadeur 6600C with foot number 810200 and in Ex+++ Cond sold for $637
Never ceases to amaze me, that people would pay so much money for a reel, that is impossible
to see ! Every picture was blurry, to the point that, no one could determine the condition of this reel. So I just assume that all the bidders took the sellers description as being gospel. It was described as being in Ex+++ cond, with only two very minor marks
on the reels right hand side. The original box (which was in not the best cond) was included, as was the guarantee card, carry bag (cloth type), wrench, instruction book and the original receipt which showed where it was purchased in Sweden and dated 21.01.1983
An ABU Ambassadeur 5000 D 24kt. gold plated reel with no foot number sold for $562.
Described as being in mint condition.
A Record Spinning Reel marked with only "Record" on the side plate housing sold for $470.
This reel came in its original leather case, which was in Ex.Cond. The reel itself showed signs of its age, with a few rust spots here and there. A very rare and collectable set none the less. Have not seen too many of these around, especially in their original case ! This could possibly have been the Record 500, will have to check out all the pictures I have of it and confirm later.
An Ambassadeur 5000 with fat black spool sold for $426.
Reel was described as "complete with leather case, oil, spare parts. The reel
and leather case was is MINT/NEW condition. Serial number reel is 162481. Nice reel for the collector and comes from the 60ies"
An Abu 888 complete in its original carton sold for $424.
The reel was described as being in top condition and the
carton was in fair to good cond.
An Ambassadeur 30 (Reel Only) in good used condition was sold for $445.
The grease tube, instruction book and leather case was also included. Another case, whereby I felt the seller could have got more for this
reel, if he/she had of added more photos !! Only 1 side on photo was supplied, and even this was not so good !
An Abu 225 in the box sold for $279. The reel was mint and described as unfished. The box had slight damage to the corners, otherwise
in reasonably good condition for its age.
May 2006
EBAY
Reel of the month, and number 2 on my Top 10 list is this beautiful unfished Ambassadeur 5500 Gold. This reel is quite rare and much sort after by collectors. When a so called "Unfished"
model popped up on Ebay, I expected it would go for a good price, and indeed it did. There were 23 bids and the lucky buyer paid $3025. All I can say is CONGRATULATIONS ! (And I'll just keep dreaming of the day I can afford to buy one)
A Record Ambassadeur
5000 MOD SG sold for $860. There were 9 bids on this reel.
The reel was in reasonable condition for its age, had a reasonable amount of rash on the top plates and came with its original leather case. The oil vial and parts tube were also included, although
im not sure if it was empty or not. There have been quite a few of these reels coming up over the last few months. I suspect it is a chain reaction as collectors upgrade the standard of their collection. In January 2006 a near mint SG (No 1 on my top 10 list)
was sold on the Tradera site and since then, there have been a number of SG's changing hands. I expect this flow of such a rare and collectable reel will slow down again shortly, until of course, the next mint, or unfished SG arrives, causing the chain reaction
to start all over again. Will be interesting to see if the same thing happens now, after the sale of the 5500 Gold !
A 75th Abu Anniversary Set attracted 23 bidders and eventually sold for $315.
Described as being unused with a very low serial
(44 of 1000). Came in its lovely teak box with all the extra's.
A Red Ambassadeur 9000 in V.G Cond sold for $312. Foot number was 077002, and described as showing minor signs of wear, but still in Ex Cond.
Finally A N.I.B Ambassadeur 10000
was sold for $174. I Personally think this was a fantastic buy for the money. Described as only taken out of the box for the photos, this beautiful reel looked to be in pristine cond. The photos could have been better and could have even helped to increased
the price !!! The reel attracted 21 bids.
TRADERA
Not an Ambassadeur, not a RECORD but one of Abu's Swedish rivals,
This beautiful Victory C3 set sold for $985.
Described as being in mint condition, everything as new and unfished - Wow !
An Abu Ambassadeur 6000 with roman numerals sold for an impressive $625
Described as...
"Old super rare
Abu Ambassadeur 6000…This is the First model after the Record Ambassadeur 6000 models. Has roman numbers inside (III), handle from record Ambassadeur, and the leather case same as the Record. All original, this reel is rarer than all record models.
Reel in very good condition, but not new. Comes from the 50ies! Also included is the leather case, parts and tube".
Hmmmm - Super Rare ? and Rarer than ALL record models ? Sure the roman numbered Ambassadeurs are quite rare, but in my humble opinion there
are other models more rare than this particular model.
A Record 2100 in superb condition sold for $531.. Now this particular reel is what I consider RARE.. Look closely at the spool and you will see it has the competition type spool. Have only seen
2 -3 of these in my time !

An Ambassadeur 4500 Casting Reel-Unused fetched a great price after 13 bids. It sold for $510. The seller described the reel as looking to be unused and therefore in Ex.Cond. Pretty accurate description going by the pictures ! The serial number was 780100.. I believe this seller could have got even more for this reel if he had of opened up to "worldwide bidding", however he would only ship within the USA.
An Ambassadeur 5500 Brown with box sold for $356. 8 bids on this reel that was described as being in V.G Cond. Would have been described as mint if it wasn't for a tiny rub on the bottom rim and handle. Serial number was 751100
An Abu Ambassadeur 2500 sold for $323 and
attracted 9 bids.
Description as follows: Arguably the most beautiful series of the Ambassadeur line, according to Simon Shimomura the lightweight and compact ABU 2500 was introduced in 1962.
Simon Shimomura writes in his book The Ambassadeur and
I, "Among the seven models, the Ambassadeur 2500 is the most difficult to find today because it was introduced only during the year 1962." Daniel Skupien backs this statement up in his book Vintage Fishing Reels of Sweden.
The characteristic silver knob
allows for a kind of early slip drag that was coming into favor in the early 60's. With this type of drag the handle must be held stationary for the drag to be engaged.
This is a rare model. Shimomura rates this as "Toughest" Grade 5 along with other
models such as the 5500 CDL and Record Model SG.
The smooth Chrome foot has says: "Made in Sweden."
ALL ORIGINAL, The reel needs some cleaning and polishing because of dirty oil deposits. The white plastic inserts are dirty but in nice condition
with no cracks. The drag and mechanics are smooth.
An Ambassadeur 8500 attracted 18 bids and eventually sold for $271. Described as perfect mechanically with smooth retrieval. The serial number was 730400.

The following description accompanied the auction… This is an AMBASSADEUR GARCIA 1750-A Bait Casting Reel in the original box. The foot is stamped with the number 020901. The box also has a metal wrench, a clear round plastic tube
of small parts, the instruction papers, owners manual and warranty papers. The back page of the instruction manual is dated 1968. Condition is excellent, the reel appears unused, clean, shiny, and operates fine. A great AMBASSADEUR 1750-A reel and the original
box.

Top for the month was a Record Ambassadeur Model SG. Im not even going to bother wasting space to put up the pics, as they were so blurry you couldn't even see the details !
That some one would pay $611 for this reel
astonishes me ! Even if the seller described it as being cosmetically 8/10 and in good working cond, I personally would NOT spend that sort of money on a reel I couldn't clearly see for myself ! Of course being an SG Model, it was probably worth the money
paid, however im sure the seller could have got more if it was presented better. It came with its original case, spare parts tube and oil.
$550 for this Abu 444 in the box with extra spool. 18 bids on this set which was described as the reel being in used cond and the box had some damage as the pics show.
A mint in the box Abu Ambassadeur 6500. This reel was the first in the series and had a serial / foot number of 780400. It also had the Ambassadeur 6500 engraved on the side plate. Picture was not the best but didn't put off the 15 bidders with the final winning bid at $504
A Rare find - Record 1550 Model A complete with red agate and a very rare seagrass box sold for $486. 3 bids only on this rare combination which was described as being in Ex Cond.
